The main enzyme responsible for breaking down histamine in the body. Its deficiency is related to HIT.
Diamine oxidase (DAO) is a key enzyme found primarily in the intestinal mucosa and liver. Its main function is to break down histamine taken from food or produced in the body. Insufficient activity or amount of DAO enzyme leads to the accumulation of histamine, which manifests itself in the symptoms of histamine intolerance.
